Immediately, I had to get used to driving distances from Ranch to the nearest town (12 to 50 miles away) to shop for groceries, or to go to church, or to pick up supplies for the Ranch. The mailbox was two miles away. As the years went by, I came to get used to long stretches of road with no gas or bathrooms. A car radio came in handy to pass the time if we could get a reception.
Mud, and snow drifts, and ice, and gravel, became a way of life, but I never mastered driving in mud or whiteouts of snow, or on ice. Today, I love my life in Montana with the wide-open spaces, cows, horses, dogs, cats, and lots of friends who will come to help you whenever you need it.
